Tomorrow is that last day of semester one. It seems like just yesterday we were doing our reports on Braveheart. As hard as it's going to be to say goodbye, it is time to reflect. At the beginning of the semester I was worried about how it would go. From the start I always felt that I was a weak writer but I was determined to improve. I was also not in favour of the fact that weebly and other online assignments would take place during the semester, but I eventually got over it. Back to the writing idea. On one of the first written assignments in the semester, Why William Wallace is a Tragic Hero, I was worried when I found out how poorly I did. Afterwards, I kept thinking to myself how I could improve, how I could strive for the ninety percent that I so desperately wanted. I first decided that I would organize all of my assignments extremely well. For all written assignments I would create a brainstorming sheet, an outline, a rough, draft, and a good copy that I would always keep in and hand in inside a folder. Organization wasn't enough, I had to start thinking critically and intelligently. It was after my paragraph on Macbeth that I learned I needed to develop more in depth explanations in my writing. I began think of the following scenarios: How does the proof affect the plot? How do the characters react? What were the motifs? etc. Then, finally came my last writing assignment, other than the exam and seminar, my essay on George Orwell's 1984. This was my last chance to truly show how much I have improved all year. I work hard and long, even throughout the winter break. I made sure to keep organized and develop thoroughly thought out explanations. I submitted it with pride. Earlier today I was able to see how well I have improved. Unfortunately, my extensive hard work proved false as I was not able to achieve the ninety percent, although I am glad to see that I have remained at the same level I was at previously, showing consistency. In summary, though I was not able to complete my goal of a ninety percent in writing, ENG 3UI has helped me very much. My reading and oral presentation skills have drastically improved and my written mark is at least better than in ENG 2DI. With closer of a truly amazing semester and being taught by a great teacher, it is my goal for ENG 4UI to finally reach the ninety percent, and though I know the path will not be easy, I always prefer a challenge.
